Dear Readers,
You may have noticed that I have not posted in some time. Last Monday, March 10, my grandmother passed away. Jonathan and I spent three days with family, putting things in order and sharing our memories. On Wednesday, we had a simple service at the Veterans Cemetary where my grandfather was buried three years ago. We read the 23rd Psalm and sang Amazing Grace, as she requested. She was then placed next to (or rather, on top of) my grandfather. (As mom says, she wanted to rule grandpa in death as she did in life.)
Although the death of any loved one is difficult, we are comforted by knowing that she was ready and is now free from a long life of poor health. My mother spent many long hours discussing the afterlife with her and we believe she did not fear death at the end.
On a lighter note, I would like to list some of our favorite things about grandma, or at least, the things that made us laugh:
1) Grandma was very gullible. The picture below was taken last Christmas when my sister gave her a fake winning lotto ticket and she completely fell for it. (She would be appalled that I chose this picture but I will try to add a nicer one later.)
2) Grandma was diabetic but loved sweets. There were always lots of packaged goodies at her house.
3) The only thing grandma could cook or bake was boxed cakes. She did this very well but could burn canned corn.
4) She was beyond all feelings of modesty or embarrassment and all of us (including Jonathan) saw a little too much of grandma.
5) She was always so proud of all of us, no matter the size of our accomplishments, and always insisted on writing articles about our family deeds for the local newspaper.
You created lots of memories for us grandma, some good and some not so good but we have learned from all of them. We'll miss you...
P.S. Please don't give Momo and grandpa too much trouble up there. :)
