This morning Jonathan and I awoke shortly before our normal 4:45 am.... to the feeling of our bed shaking and something rattling in our bedroom. We couldn't be sure about what we were feeling... was it just a mutual New Zealand flashback? After it subsided, Jonathan surfed the internet for news of any earthquakes in the area. This was at 4:41 am. We didn't find anything at first but went ahead and reported our experiences of the quake. About ten minutes later, we saw that at 4:36 am there had been a 5.4 quake in Illinois, about 3 hours away. We were shocked. We thought that we left quakes behind when we left New Zealand! We never would have imagined waking up to a shaking bed in the Central United States. Good morning, everyone!
